🦌 Annual Montana Matters Youth Art contest🎨

Love Wildlife? Love Art? This Contest Is for You!

                                                                                                                              

Are you a talented Montana artist between the ages of 13 and 17? Do you like local wildlife? Enter our annual art contest and win some CASH! Plus, you get to attend a Montana Matters youth camp and learn about conservation, wildlife and the great outdoors. Your art will be auctioned to raise money for Montana Matters at our annual event. 


Rules: 

- Artwork must be the contestant’s unique and original hand-done creation. You can’t copy someone else’s art or photograph, and you can’t use AI or a digital medium. 


- Artwork can be produced with paint, crayon, pastel, charcoal, pencil, pen or scratchboard. Color is encouraged. Please spray pastels and charcoal with fixative.


 - Art should be 11 x 14” in size, and feature one or more of the following species of wildlife in a Montana setting: 


Bighorn sheep - Mule deer - Black bear - Sandhill crane- Pintail duck- Mountain bluebird - Rainbow trout - Sage grouse- Pronghorn antelope- Lynx 


- Please try to mount delicate entries on a firmer surface to protect the art.


 - There will be two groups of entries: 5th —8th grade and 9th —12th grade.  


 - Artwork submissions will be accepted until February 1, 2026. - Fill out and attach entry form to the back of each entry. You can print the image of the entry form right from the website image below! Do not sign your artwork.   


A Montana Matters Representative will collect all entries from the Bitterroot Valley Schools art Teachers on Feb 3, 2026. If you are not located in the Bitterroot Valley, please contact Simone Larson at (406)679-0496 to arrange a collection of your entry. 



🏆 Prizes:

  • 1st Place: $300 + free attendance at Montana Matters Youth Camp     
  • 2nd Place: $125 
  • 3rd Place: $75(Prizes awarded in both age groups)


🎉 Special Recognition:  

1st place artwork will be auctioned at the Montana Matters Fundraising Event (March 21, 2026, at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds) Winners must attend the event if selected for auction
